Classroom Expectations

Students are expected to arrive to class prepared, practice academic integrity and honesty, be respectful, courteous and kind, and to engage in their own learning.

All students are expected to read at home to increase success. If students do not read outside the classroom, student growth will be slowed.

Mrs. Osth's classroom rules follow those found in the North Zulch Student Handbook

Grading Policy

60% Daily

40% Major

Grades are updated weekly. Log into Parent Portal for current grade status. In-class progress reports are sent home for bonus point signature at the three week mark.

Late work is not acceptable. School prepares student for life. Habits, good and bad, carry into adulthood.

Make-up work for excused absences will not be late until the late days exceed those of excused absences. Assignments given before the student missed school (such as projects) are due upon arrival to school considering they knew about the assignment long before the due date. Procrastination is not an excuse for a late project. Students are encouraged to begin work on projects as soon as the assignment is given to avoid a late penalty.

Re-testing or test corrections will be done during a tutoring session with Mrs. Osth.  Arrangements must be made in advance so that the appropriate passes may be given to the student. While this will not replace the grade, it will improve it and allow the student to work one-on-one with Mrs. Osth to understand reasons for the failing grade.

Extra credit is earned by submitting a historical marker selfie of the student and the official state of Texas roadside or building historical marker along with a summary of the historical marker. Photos and three written or typed reflections, based on the marker, must be sent to osthj@nzisd.org for credit to be given. This is applied to a major grade. There are several major grades in a nine weeks so students are encouraged to submit several markers and summaries. At times, students are given various opportunities to get papers signed, or complete extra work to gain bonus points, HOWEVER do not wait to submit extra credit. Due dates are set for the extra work to be completed and if that deadine is not met, the extra credit will not be applied.

Parent Square:

Parent Square is an app the district uses to send messages, but it also is used by teachers to remind students of forthcoming deadlines and provide updates to parents. All students and parents are encouraged to join.

Parent portal is a way to keep up with grades beyond the classroom. Contact the front office to obtain the student specific code. Do not share this code with classmates. Grades are updated several times a week.

Accountability and discipline

Parents will be notified if students are not meeting the expectations of the classroom. Students are expected to bring needed supplies to class every day, behave in a manner suitable to the learning environment, and treat fellow students, teachers, and administration in a courteous manner.

Everyone in the room is to be respectful, courteous, and kind.
